How Depop fees work in the US

Depop removed its 10% selling fee for US sellers in July 2024. Today a US seller pays a payment processing fee of 3.3% plus $0.45 on each sale, charged on the item price, the shipping and any sales tax the buyer pays.

Buyers pay a separate marketplace fee of up to 5% of the item price, plus up to $1, on top of what they pay you. It does not come out of your payout.

Processing fee = (Item price + Shipping + Sales tax) × 3.3% + $0.45 Payout = Item price + Shipping − Fees

Boosted listings

Boosting puts your listing in front of more buyers. You pay a boosting fee only when a boosted item sells after a buyer interacts with the boost. For new boosts in the US from March 23, 2026, the fee is 12%; listings boosted before that date keep the earlier 8% rate.

The boosting fee is charged on the item price, not the sales tax. Shipping is included only if you did not use a Depop shipping label. At 12%, a boosted sale costs far more in fees than an ordinary one, so check the profit before boosting low-margin items.

Boosting fee = Item price × 12% (plus shipping if you ship with your own label)

Selling on Depop outside the US

Sellers outside the US, UK and Australia still pay a 10% selling fee on Depop. Payment processing rates also differ by country and currency. If you sell from another country, enter your local rates in the fee fields; the selling fee field is there for that.

Profit and margin

Profit takes your payout and subtracts what the item cost you and the shipping label. Margin is that profit as a share of the price and shipping the buyer paid you.

Profit = Payout − Item cost − Shipping label Margin % = Profit ÷ (Item price + Shipping) × 100

eBay vs Poshmark vs Mercari vs Depop vs Etsy vs TikTok Shop fees

The table below runs one US sale through each marketplace’s standard fees: a $40 item with $8 shipping paid by the buyer and no sales tax, no ads or promotions. It counts only the fees the seller pays.

The cheapest platform on paper is not always the one that leaves you the most profit. Poshmark’s buyer pays a flat shipping label that is not commissioned, Depop charges its buyers a separate marketplace fee, and a platform with more buyers for your item may sell it faster or for more.

Depop (US) $2.03 3.3% + $0.45 processing, no selling fee TikTok Shop $2.88 6% referral fee Mercari $4.80 10% of item + shipping Etsy $5.01 listing, 6.5% transaction, 3% + $0.25 processing eBay (most categories) $6.93 13.6% + $0.40 per order Poshmark $8.00 20% of the item price

Where these rates come from

The fees come from Depop’s seller fees help page and its July 2024 announcement removing US selling fees, checked in November 2026. Depop’s fees have changed several times recently, so compare them with your own account and edit the fields if they differ.

Worked example

A US seller sells a vintage T-shirt for $40, and the buyer pays $8 shipping. The shirt cost $12 and the label costs $7.50. No sales tax applies.

Item price + shipping$48.00
Selling fee$0.00
Payment processing (3.3% + $0.45)$2.03
Payout$45.97
Item and label costs$19.50
Profit$26.47 (55.1% margin)

Depop’s fees are just $2.03. If the sale came from a boost at 12%, another $4.80 would come off, leaving $21.67.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Depop take from a sale in the US?

No selling fee, but a payment processing fee of 3.3% plus $0.45 on the price, shipping and tax. On a $40 item with $8 shipping and no tax, that is $2.03. Boosted sales add 12% of the item price.

Does Depop still charge a 10% fee?

Not for US sellers since July 15, 2024. Sellers outside the US, UK and Australia still pay a 10% selling fee.

How much is the Depop boosting fee?

12% of the item price for listings boosted in the US from March 23, 2026, and 8% for listings boosted before then. You pay it only when a boosted item sells.

Does Depop charge fees on shipping?

The payment processing fee is charged on the total the buyer pays, including shipping and tax. The boosting fee includes shipping only when you ship with your own label instead of a Depop label.

Is Depop cheaper than Poshmark?

For US sellers, much cheaper on an ordinary sale. A $40 item with $8 shipping costs $2.03 in Depop fees and $8.00 on Poshmark. A boosted Depop sale narrows the gap.
