How Mercari fees work
Mercari charges US sellers a selling fee of 10% of the item price plus the shipping the buyer pays. It applies to listings created or updated since January 6, 2025. There is no separate payment processing fee for sellers and no fee to list.
Buyers pay their own Buyer Protection fee of 3.6% on top of the price, so it does not come out of your earnings. Sales tax is collected from the buyer and is not part of the fee.
Selling fee = (Item price + Shipping the buyer pays) × 10% Earnings = Item price + Shipping the buyer pays − Selling fee − Shipping label
Getting paid: Instant Pay and direct deposit
Moving your balance to your bank by standard direct deposit is free. Instant Pay sends the money within minutes for a flat $3 per cash-out, up to $600 a month. Because it is a flat fee, it costs more as a share of a small balance, so cashing out several sales at once is cheaper.
Instant Pay cost as a share = $3 ÷ Amount cashed out × 100
Free shipping versus buyer-paid shipping
When the buyer pays shipping, the 10% fee applies to the shipping too, and you then pay the label cost from what you receive. When you offer free shipping, the label still comes out of your earnings and the fee is charged on the item price alone.
Either way, the label is a real cost. Build it into your price, and use the calculator to compare both ways of charging for the same item.
Setting a price to earn what you want
With free shipping, add your label cost to the amount you want to earn and divide by 0.9 to get the price. To earn $30 with a $7.50 label, price at $41.67.
Price (free shipping) = (Earnings wanted + Label cost) ÷ 0.9
eBay vs Poshmark vs Mercari vs Depop vs Etsy vs TikTok Shop fees
The table below runs one US sale through each marketplace’s standard fees: a $40 item with $8 shipping paid by the buyer and no sales tax, no ads or promotions. It counts only the fees the seller pays.
The cheapest platform on paper is not always the one that leaves you the most profit. Poshmark’s buyer pays a flat shipping label that is not commissioned, Depop charges its buyers a separate marketplace fee, and a platform with more buyers for your item may sell it faster or for more.
Depop (US) $2.03 3.3% + $0.45 processing, no selling fee TikTok Shop $2.88 6% referral fee Mercari $4.80 10% of item + shipping Etsy $5.01 listing, 6.5% transaction, 3% + $0.25 processing eBay (most categories) $6.93 13.6% + $0.40 per order Poshmark $8.00 20% of the item price
Where these rates come from
The fees come from Mercari’s US help centre, checked in November 2026. Mercari has changed its fees several times in recent years, including dropping its selling fee in 2024 and bringing back a 10% fee in January 2025, so check its help centre and edit the fields if the rate has changed.
Worked example
A seller sells a pair of headphones for $40, and the buyer pays $8 shipping. The headphones cost $12 and the shipping label costs $7.50.
| Item price + shipping | $48.00 |
| Selling fee (10%) | $4.80 |
| Earnings before costs | $43.20 |
| Item and label costs | $19.50 |
| Profit | $23.70 (49.4% margin) |
Mercari takes $4.80. Cashing out the sale with Instant Pay would cost another $3, leaving $20.70.
