Which fees Etsy charges on a sale

A typical Etsy sale has three fees. The listing fee is US$0.20, and when you sell more than one of an item, the listing renews and you pay it again for each extra item. The transaction fee is 6.5% of what the buyer pays for the item and shipping, including gift wrap if you offer it. Payment processing, for US shops using Etsy Payments, is 3% plus US$0.25 per order.

On a typical order these add up to roughly 10% to 12% of the sale. Low-priced items pay a higher share, because the fixed parts (the listing fee and the US$0.25) weigh more on a small order.

Payment processing is worked out on the order total. In the US that total can include the sales tax the buyer pays, which this calculator leaves out, so your real processing fee may be a few cents higher.

Order total = Item price × Quantity + Shipping charged Transaction fee = Order total × 6.5% Processing fee = Order total × 3% + $0.25 Listing fees = $0.20 × Quantity

Offsite Ads

When a buyer clicks an Etsy ad on another website and orders from your shop within 30 days, Etsy charges an Offsite Ads fee on that order. The rate is 15% for shops that have never made US$10,000 in sales in any 365-day period, where the ads are optional, and 12% for shops that have, where they are required. The fee is capped at US$100 per order.

The fee is charged on the order total including shipping and is capped at US$100 per order. The calculator applies that cap when you work in US dollars. Only some orders come from Offsite Ads, so leave it set to None for ordinary sales.

Offsite Ads fee = Order total × 15% or 12% (maximum US$100 per order)

Profit, margin and fees as a share of the sale

Net revenue is what Etsy pays out for the order after its fees. Profit then subtracts what the items cost you and the postage you paid. Profit margin is that profit as a share of the order total.

Fees as a share of the sale is a useful number to track. If it climbs above about 15% on ordinary orders, your prices are probably too low or your shipping charge does not cover your postage.

Net revenue = Order total − Total fees Profit = Net revenue − Item cost × Quantity − Shipping you pay Profit margin % = Profit ÷ Order total × 100

Fees outside the US, and where these figures come from

The default fees come from Etsy’s Fees & Payments Policy as checked in November 2026. Etsy changes its fees from time to time, so compare them with the policy and your own payment account before relying on them.

The 6.5% transaction fee and the US$0.20 listing fee are the same everywhere, but payment processing depends on where your bank account is. A UK shop pays 4% + £0.20. A shop in Germany and most of the eurozone, including France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Ireland, pays 4% + €0.30. Canadian and Australian shops pay 3% + C$0.25 or A$0.25 on domestic orders and 4% on international ones. Choosing your shop location fills these in.

Etsy also charges a regulatory operating fee in some countries, on the item price, shipping and gift wrap. From June 22, 2026 it is 0.48% in the UK, 1.14% in France, 0.80% in Italy, 0.88% in Spain and 0.50% in Canada; Germany has none. Choosing your shop location puts the rate in the Other fees field.

In the UK, EU and some other countries, Etsy adds VAT to its seller fees. If you are VAT registered you may be able to reclaim it; if not, it is a real cost, so add it to Other fees as a share of the sale. Check the fee rules for your country in your Shop Manager.

Worked example

A US shop sells 2 hand-poured candles at $24 each and charges $6 shipping. Each candle costs $8 to make and the postage label costs $4.50. The sale did not come from Offsite Ads.

Order total$54.00
Listing fees (2 × $0.20)$0.40
Transaction fee (6.5%)$3.51
Payment processing (3% + $0.25)$1.87
Total Etsy fees$5.78 (10.7% of the sale)
Net revenue$48.22
Item and shipping costs$20.50
Profit$27.72 (51.3% margin)

Etsy takes $5.78 and the shop keeps $27.72. If the same order came through Offsite Ads at 15%, another $8.10 in fees would cut profit to $19.62 and push fees to 25.7% of the sale.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Etsy take from a sale?

For a US shop, usually around 10% to 12% of the order: the 6.5% transaction fee, 3% + $0.25 payment processing and the $0.20 listing fee. An Offsite Ads sale adds 12% or 15% more. Small orders lose a larger share because of the fixed fees.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The transaction fee, payment processing and Offsite Ads are all charged on the order total, which includes the shipping the buyer pays. Free shipping does not avoid this; it just moves the shipping cost into your item price.

Do I pay the listing fee again when an item sells?

The listing fee is charged when you list an item and again each time it auto-renews after a sale. If a buyer orders 3 of the same item, you pay the listing fee for each item sold.

Can I turn off Offsite Ads?

Shops that have never made US$10,000 in sales in any 365-day period can opt out in their Etsy settings. Once a shop passes that level, Offsite Ads are required for the life of the shop, but the fee drops to 12%. Check your Shop Manager for the current rules.

Are Etsy fees refunded if I refund an order?

Etsy usually credits back the transaction fee in proportion to the refund, but keeps the listing fee and at least part of the payment processing fee. Check the Fees & Payments Policy for the current rules on refunds.

What are Etsy fees in the UK?

A UK shop pays the same 6.5% transaction fee and US$0.20 listing fee (converted to pounds), plus payment processing of 4% + £0.20 and a regulatory operating fee of 0.48% from June 22, 2026. Etsy also adds VAT to its fees for UK sellers. Choose United Kingdom as the shop location to use these rates.

What are Etsy fees in Canada and Australia?

Both pay the 6.5% transaction fee and the US$0.20 listing fee. Payment processing is 3% + C$0.25 or A$0.25 on domestic orders and 4% on international ones. Canadian shops also pay a 0.50% regulatory operating fee. Choose Canada or Australia as the shop location.

Why are my Etsy fees different from this calculator?

Your country, currency conversion, sales tax on the order, VAT on fees, a regulatory operating fee or a fee change can all shift the numbers. Edit the fee fields to match your payment account and Etsy’s policy for your country.
