How to calculate VAT in Norway
To add tax, multiply the price before tax by 25% and add it on. To find the price before tax inside a total, divide the total by 1.25. Taking 25% off the total gives the wrong answer, because the tax was charged on the smaller pre-tax price.
Tax = Price × 25 ÷ 100 Price before tax = Total ÷ 1.25
| Price before tax | kr 2,500.00 |
|---|---|
| VAT at 25% | kr 625.00 |
| Total | kr 3,125.00 |
| A total of kr 6,250.00 includes tax of | kr 1,250.00 |
| …so the price before tax was | kr 5,000.00 |
