Venmo fees for sellers
Payments between friends funded from your Venmo balance, bank account or debit card are free. Fees apply when you get paid for a sale. If a buyer marks a payment to your personal account as goods and services, Venmo takes a seller transaction fee of 2.99% of the payment, with no fixed part.
A Venmo business profile pays a different rate: 1.9% + $0.10 per payment received, or 2.29% + $0.09 for Tap to Pay payments taken in person. On most payments above about $9 the business profile rate is cheaper than goods and services on a personal account, and it is the account Venmo expects you to use if you sell regularly.
Rates are from Venmo’s fees page as checked in November 2026. Venmo can change them, so compare with the fees shown in your app before relying on the numbers.
Goods and services fee = Payment × 2.99% Business profile fee = Payment × 1.9% + $0.10 You receive = Payment − Fee
Venmo Instant Transfer fee
Moving money from Venmo to your bank is free with a standard transfer, which usually arrives in 1 to 3 business days. Instant Transfer sends it to an eligible bank account or debit card within about 30 minutes for a fee of 1.75% of the amount, with a minimum fee of $0.25 and a maximum of $25.
The $25 cap means the fee stops growing at about $1,428.57. Transfer $5,000 instantly and you still pay $25, which is 0.5% of the amount. Small transfers pay more than 1.75%, because of the $0.25 minimum: a $10 instant transfer costs $0.25, or 2.5%.
Instant Transfer fee = Amount × 1.75%, no less than $0.25 and no more than $25 You receive = Amount − Fee
Cash App for Business and Instant Deposit fees
Personal Cash App payments are free. A Cash App for Business account pays a processing fee of 2.75% on each payment received, deducted automatically. Cash App says the rate is disclosed when you open or switch to a business account, so check it in your Activity tab.
Cashing out to your bank with a standard deposit is free. Instant Deposit costs between 0.5% and 1.75% of the amount, with a minimum fee of $0.25. The calculator starts at 1.75%, the top of the range; set the rate your app shows when you cash out.
Cash App rates come from Cash App’s help center as checked in November 2026. Cash App’s published fee pages are short and it can change rates with notice, so the fee shown in your app always wins.
Cash App for Business fee = Payment × 2.75% Instant Deposit fee = Amount × 0.5% to 1.75%, minimum $0.25
How much to charge to receive an exact amount
To pass the fee on, you cannot simply add the fee percentage to your price, because the fee is also charged on the extra you add. Divide instead. Add any fixed fee to the amount you want, then divide by one minus the rate.
When a minimum or maximum fee applies, the answer is simpler: if the fee would be below the minimum, charge the amount you want plus the minimum fee; if it would be above the maximum, charge the amount plus the maximum. The calculator checks which case applies.
Before adding a fee to what customers pay, check the rules for your account. Card networks and some US states restrict credit card surcharges, and a fee that surprises a buyer can cost you the sale.
Amount to charge = (Amount you want + Fixed fee) ÷ (1 − Rate) With a minimum or maximum fee: Amount to charge = Amount you want + Minimum or Maximum fee
Worked example
A seller gets paid $200 for a used camera through Venmo goods and services, then moves the money to the bank with Instant Transfer.
| Payment received | $200.00 |
| Goods and services fee (2.99%) | $5.98 |
| Balance after the sale | $194.02 |
| Instant Transfer fee (1.75% of $194.02) | $3.40 |
| Arrives in the bank | $190.62 |
| Total fees | $9.38 (4.69% of the sale) |
| Charge to receive $200 after the seller fee | $206.16 |
The seller loses $9.38 of the $200. On a Venmo business profile the sale fee would be $3.90 (1.9% × $200 + $0.10), and a free standard transfer instead of Instant Transfer would save the other $3.40.
